How to dispose of common items in Mississauga
Mattress and box-spring disposal
A mattress is listed by Peel as bulky garbage. Set it out by 7 a.m. on the regular garbage day, or take it to a Community Recycling Centre and expect the applicable drop-off fee.
Couches and large furniture
Couches, tables and other accepted furniture can use the bulky route. Break down only when the official item instructions call for it, and keep the public walkway clear.
Fridges, freezers and appliances
Peel no longer collects large appliances from the curb. Take refrigerators, freezers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, air conditioners, water heaters and other large appliances or metal fixtures to a Peel Community Recycling Centre, where large appliances and metal fixtures are accepted free of charge.
Drywall and renovation debris
Cabinets, flooring, drywall and demolition material need a construction-waste route rather than the household bulky stream. Check facility acceptance before self-hauling.
Does your property type change the answer?
A condo or apartment may use a private hauler even when it is located in Mississauga. Residents should confirm the building's collection provider before using Peel's curbside instructions.

The address calendar controls the curbside date
Peel Region still handles garbage and bulky collection at eligible Mississauga addresses. Put accepted furniture, mattresses or a barbecue at the curb by 7 a.m. on the property's regular garbage day, not simply whenever the item is removed from a room. Remove a barbecue's propane tank and use Peel's waste sorter for an ambiguous piece. A missed recycling pickup is a different service question: Circular Materials manages residential recycling in Peel from 2026, while Peel remains the source for bulky household garbage.
What a drop-off visit adds to the calculation
Peel Community Recycling Centres take many bulky and special items, but charge fees for bulky drop-off. A municipal curbside collection of an accepted couch may therefore cost the household less than loading it into a rented vehicle. Conversely, an appliance not accepted at curbside needs a separate destination. For a carpet removal, Peel specifies cut and rolled bundles no longer than 1.2 m and no wider than 76 cm; a whole uncut roll goes to a CRC. Separate the carpet from the sofa before deciding the transport plan.
Condo access is the first question, not the postcode
A Mississauga condo may have a private collection arrangement rather than Peel's curbside service. The manager can identify the provider, booking rule, freight elevator hours and approved staging point. Leaving furniture beside a private dumpster because nearby houses get regional collection can create a charge for the building. A useful hauler quote should specify whether stair or elevator access, parking, and any special-material drop-off are included; those are practical access costs rather than a different municipal rule.
