- Check or arrange large-item service with the City of Oshawa before set-out. Do not use the Ajax/Pickering or rural Durham instructions, because those municipalities follow different booking rules.

How to dispose of common items in Oshawa
Mattress and box-spring disposal
Mattresses and box springs are accepted through Oshawa's own Large Item Collection program. Book at least two business days before the regular garbage day and follow the City's current set-out, size and weight rules.
Couches and large furniture
Furniture and other large household items are handled by the City. Follow the City's quantity, size, booking and placement directions for the scheduled collection.
Fridges, freezers and appliances
Large appliances, scrap metal and e-waste are accepted through Oshawa's own Large Item Collection program. Book at least two business days before the regular garbage day; use the Durham Region route for household hazardous waste and other excluded materials.
Drywall and renovation debris
For Oshawa renovation debris, use Durham Region's accepted-material guidance or a private debris service; construction material is not part of the City's ordinary furniture route.
