How to use the Nunavut disposal hub
This Nunavut hub currently links to 1 researched community guide, including Iqaluit. Waste services are local: a sofa, mattress, appliance, renovation load or household hazardous item can follow a different route depending on the community's current collection program, transfer facility, landfill or special-waste system. The province or territory page is therefore a directory, not a substitute for the local guide.
In Nunavut, community-specific collection and drop-off arrangements matter more than a generic territory-wide answer, especially for bulky or special items. Open the community page before loading a vehicle or booking a hauler. Check whether the item is accepted curbside, requires a special pickup, belongs at a staffed facility, or needs a separate depot or stewardship route. Fees, hours and accepted materials can change. If your community is not listed, use the local government or regional waste authority directly rather than applying a nearby city's rule.
Current Iqaluit disposal example
Large-item collection is not a permanent curbside assumption. The City of Iqaluit announced a residential Large Item Pick-Up Program for the week beginning June 15, 2026. It accepted furniture, mattresses and appliances but excluded construction waste, hazardous waste, electronics, paint, fuel, chemicals and tires. If no current pickup notice is active, use the landfill or another City-directed route instead of leaving bulky material beside regular garbage.
The municipal landfill publishes separate charges for categories such as large appliances, refrigerant appliances, bulky material and construction debris. Because those fees and event windows can change, check the current City page before loading a vehicle.
