- Three-item garbage limit
- A mattress, chair or table counts as one item toward Vaughan’s normal three-item garbage limit.
- Weight limit
- Large/bulky items must be kept dry and cannot exceed 68 kg / 150 lb.

- Items should be at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.

How to dispose of common items in Vaughan
Mattress and box-spring disposal
Mattresses can be placed curbside as a bulky garbage item at eligible homes. Keep the mattress dry where possible and remember it counts toward the day’s item limit.
Couches and large furniture
Chairs, tables, bookshelves and similar large items can be collected, but unsafe, overweight or oversized pieces may be refused. Sofa-bed mattresses should be removed and frames tied securely.
Fridges, freezers and appliances
Dishwashers, refrigerators and other large metal items are not handled exactly like a couch: the City’s appliance/metal pickup is by appointment on Thursdays and fees apply.
Drywall and renovation debris
Construction material is listed among items that should not be left for ordinary curbside pickup. Use the appropriate York Region or other approved disposal route for renovation debris.
Does your property type change the answer?
Vaughan has an important split between curbside homes and multi-residential properties. A resident in a City-serviced multi-residential building does not book the bulky pickup personally; the property manager or designate uses the City’s scheduling system.
