How to dispose of common items in Brampton
Mattress and box-spring disposal
Peel identifies mattresses as oversized or bulky garbage. Put the mattress at the curb by 7 a.m. on the regular garbage collection day, or take it to a Community Recycling Centre where drop-off charges apply.
Couches and large furniture
Common furniture is part of Peel's bulky-item stream. Keep sidewalks and roads clear, and do not include loose household garbage with the furniture.
Fridges, freezers and appliances
Peel no longer collects large appliances from the curb. Take refrigerators, freezers, dryers and other large appliances to a Peel Community Recycling Centre, where large appliances are accepted free of charge. Remove propane tanks from barbecues and take the cylinder to a Community Recycling Centre.
Drywall and renovation debris
Construction and renovation material is not the same as bulky household furniture. Use the Waste Sorter and an appropriate Community Recycling Centre or private debris service.

Brampton: keep the bulky route apart from recycling
Bulky furniture still follows the Peel garbage week
For a Brampton home receiving Peel Region collection, accepted furniture, a mattress or a barbecue can go curbside at no separate bulky pickup charge on the regular garbage day by 7 a.m. Remove the propane tank from a barbecue; Peel directs it to a Community Recycling Centre. The bulky route is tied to garbage collection, not the blue-bin recycling week. Since 2026, Circular Materials manages residential recycling, but Peel continues to collect garbage and bulky items pending the planned service transfer. Use the current address calendar for the particular house.
A renovation creates several streams
A living-room clear-out might contain a couch, old carpet, paint and a refrigerator. The couch may qualify for curbside bulky service; carpet has a specified cut-and-roll size, uncut carpet can go to a CRC, paint uses a special-material route, and large appliances are not accepted in Peel's bulky curbside stream. Calling the whole pile “junk” masks these differences. List each object in Peel's Waste Sorter and check CRC fees before deciding whether a private removal quote is worthwhile.
Building arrangements in a growing city
Townhouse, condo and apartment collection arrangements differ by address. Ask a property manager whether Peel or a private hauler serves the complex, where bulk can be staged, and how a vehicle reaches the loading point. Do not infer eligibility from Brampton's city name or from a neighbour's curbside pile. If using a hauler, include stair carry, reserved elevator time and a second facility stop for appliances in the scope. Those access details often change the actual bill more than the nominal curbside fee.
Plan the CRC visit separately
A Community Recycling Centre is useful for a load that cannot wait for garbage day or includes special material, but Peel charges for some drop-offs that would be collected free at the curb. Bring the sorted item list and check the relevant centre's current fees and hours before renting a truck.
