How to dispose of common items in Guelph
Mattress and box-spring disposal
Mattresses can use the City’s booked large-item route or be self-hauled to the Waste Resource Innovation Centre. Booked pickup currently costs $60 + HST for the first item and $27 + HST for each additional item. Confirm with the City whether a mattress and box spring count as separate booked items.
Couches and large furniture
Furniture is a common booked large-item category. It must be safely movable from the curb and should not contain household garbage.
Fridges, freezers and appliances
Refrigerant appliances, electronics and other regulated products have separate handling rules. For booked curbside pickup, refrigerant pump-down adds $26.55 + HST per applicable appliance. The Waste Resource Innovation Centre at 110 Dunlop Drive also has dedicated recycling and special-waste streams.
Drywall and renovation debris
Drywall, lumber, flooring and concrete are not normal booked furniture items. Use the City's facility guidance or an authorized construction-debris service.
