Mattress and box-spring disposal

Mattresses are included in the scheduled monthly bulky collection. If bed bugs are present, Laval instructs residents to use a bag designed to reduce spread.

Couches and large furniture

Furniture is accepted in the monthly bulky collection and in the reservation service. The reservation route is the more recovery-focused option for eligible material.

Fridges, freezers and appliances

Non-refrigerant appliances can appear in the bulky stream, but refrigerant appliances are excluded from the monthly pickup and should use the designated refrigerator/appliance recovery or drop-off route.

Drywall and renovation debris

Some construction residues can be accepted through the reservation service, while other material belongs at an ecocentre. Do not assume all renovation debris goes with the monthly furniture pile.

Laval’s bulky collection is residential. Industries, businesses and institutions cannot use curbside bulky collection and must use an appropriate commercial or ecocentre route.

Choose the service before choosing a day

Laval presents both a reserved bulky-item service and a scheduled monthly collection. The reservation route is designed to direct recoverable items to a reuse or recovery channel; the monthly route is a regular calendar service with its own exclusions. There are eleven scheduled monthly collections in the year, not a once-a-week furniture pickup. Search the address schedule and the material list before carrying a sofa outside. The City allows set-out after 7 p.m. the previous evening or before 7 a.m. on the assigned day.

The amount and size matter

For the monthly collection, the published guidance describes up to 2 m³ per address, items no longer than 1.80 m, and a requirement that two people can move them without machinery. An entire apartment clean-out can exceed that volume even when each piece is acceptable individually. Separate a large pile into eligible visits or choose an ecocentre or commercial service for the excess. Commercial establishments and institutions do not use the residential curbside bulky route.

Cooling appliances need a distinct destination

Laval excludes fridges, freezers, air conditioners and other refrigerant equipment from the monthly bulky collection; the recovery or drop-off route differs. Name the appliance when reserving or asking about an ecocentre, rather than bundling it with furniture. A mattress can also require special preparation if infested, so check the live item guidance. For a condo, confirm the building's designated outdoor point and the management rule for moving heavy items before making an individual reservation. The two City services can produce a different disposal outcome even for the same household.

Confirm the collection stream when you reserve

The reserved service may allow the City to separate reusable or recyclable material from ordinary disposal, while the monthly collection has a fixed calendar and explicit material exclusions. Ask which service the address qualifies for before moving a pile, and identify an old cooling appliance independently. If a bulky item has already been offered for reuse, set a firm acceptance time with the recipient: leaving it outdoors before either a reservation or a scheduled collection can make it unsuitable for recovery and obstruct a shared entrance.
