How to dispose of common items in Thompson
Mattress and box-spring disposal
Mattresses carry a $21 per-item residential surcharge at the Waste Disposal Grounds. Keep them visible and tell staff what is in the load.
Couches and large furniture
Couches carry a $21 residential surcharge; loveseats are listed separately at $11. Reuse is worth checking before disposal.
Fridges, freezers and appliances
Refrigerant appliances carry a $41 residential surcharge. Electronics and household hazardous waste use free dedicated drop-off streams instead of ordinary garbage.
Drywall and renovation debris
Construction waste should be declared and handled under the site’s current waste rules rather than mixed with free e-waste or hazardous-waste streams.
Does your property type change the answer?
Normal curbside collection is separate from the Waste Disposal Grounds. Multi-unit/commercial properties should follow their contracted waste system.
Thompson: the site fee table makes bulky costs easy to predict
Choose the route before loading
A mixed truckload can include both base vehicle/load charges and item-specific surcharges. Count mattresses, couches and refrigerant appliances before you go.
Keep mixed cleanouts separated
Separate e-waste and household hazardous waste because the City accepts those streams free rather than charging them as ordinary refuse.
