How to dispose of common items in Dauphin

Mattress and box-spring disposal

Mattresses and box springs are priced per item under Dauphin’s current fee schedule. Keep them separate so site staff can direct the load.

Couches and large furniture

Furniture can go through the household-waste route at the Waste Disposal Site. Divert metal and other recyclable components where practical.

Fridges, freezers and appliances

Fridges, freezers and air conditioners have a specific per-item charge. Non-refrigerant scrap metal such as stoves, washers and dryers can use the free scrap-metal diversion stream.

Drywall and renovation debris

Commercial/demolition waste has its own fee category. Clean concrete/asphalt also has a different rate, while some clean timber can be diverted if it meets site rules.

Does your property type change the answer?

Regular residential collection and the Waste Disposal Site are separate services. Large multi-unit/commercial properties should confirm their service arrangement.

Dauphin: use the Diversion Centre before paying to landfill everything

Choose the route before loading

Electronics, household hazardous products, scrap metal and other eligible diversion materials can be dropped off free, so a mixed cleanup should be sorted before weighing.

Keep mixed cleanouts separated

Mattresses and refrigerant appliances are easy to price because the City lists them per item rather than burying them in the general tonnage rate.

Diversion Centre and payment

Use the labelled diversion areas for accepted electronics, household hazardous products and tires. The City says the former OSS drop-off within city limits is no longer available. Site payment is cash or debit; credit cards are not accepted.
