LOCAL DISPOSAL OPTIONS

How to dispose of common items in Terrace

Mattress and box-spring disposal

Mattresses are too large for Terrace’s cart/tagged-bag system and the City directs large items to the Thornhill Transfer Station.

Couches and large furniture

Broken chairs and other oversized furniture are specifically the kind of material Terrace tells residents to take to Thornhill rather than leave at the curb.

Fridges, freezers and appliances

Metal and some appliance material can be handled at the transfer station or through producer-responsibility depots. Confirm the exact appliance because EPR products may use a separate take-back route.

Drywall and renovation debris

Building materials do not go in Terrace curbside carts. Drywall, flooring, lumber and similar renovation debris should be taken to Thornhill and sorted under the transfer station’s rules.

Does your property type change the answer?

Terrace’s curbside program is cart-based. Apartment or privately serviced properties may have a different hauler/building process and should follow that service contract.

Terrace: the cart is the dividing line

Choose the route before loading

If the item cannot fit safely in the cart or a permitted tagged bag, do not stage it beside the cart and hope the crew takes it. The City directs oversized material to Thornhill.

Keep mixed cleanouts separated

Sort EPR products, metal, clean wood and demolition material before the trip. Different streams can have different acceptance rules and charges.
