How to dispose of common items in New Westminster
Local disposal details for New Westminster
Metro Vancouver transfer stations and recycling/waste centres
Facility depends on community; Metro Vancouver operates regional sites including North Shore, United Boulevard (Coquitlam) and Central Surrey facilities.
Hours vary by facility, day and holiday. Check the selected facility page immediately before travel.
Garbage is charged under Metro Vancouver tipping fees. Many stewardship recyclables can have separate or free drop-off routes; minimum charges and special-item fees may apply.
Use Metro Vancouver Solid Waste facility pages for current contacts, webcam/queue notices and rates.
Choose a facility that accepts the material and vehicle type you are bringing; commercial rules can differ from household drop-off.
Mattress and box-spring disposal
The City lists a $35 mattress surcharge and a $30 box-spring surcharge on top of the special-pickup minimum, so price the exact item combination before booking.
Appliances and special items
Household appliances and furniture can use the Special Pick Up program when accepted; regulated materials still require a separate route.
Drywall and renovation debris
Construction and demolition debris is not the same as a household special pickup. Use an appropriate Metro Vancouver facility or private C&D hauler.
