How to dispose of common items in Devon
Mattress and box-spring disposal
Mattresses and box springs are on Devon’s accepted Large Item Pick Up list. They count toward the four-item household limit unless taken under the depot rules.
Couches and large furniture
Furniture is accepted when it meets the size/weight rules. Keep at least one metre between large items and carts and clearly separate anything you do not want collected.
Fridges, freezers and appliances
Stoves, hot-water tanks, washers, dryers, fridges, freezers and air conditioners are listed as accepted large items; items must meet the event preparation rules.
Drywall and renovation debris
Concrete, rocks and similar demolition material are not collected as large items. During event week the Recycle Depot has a separate route for some excluded material; verify before hauling.
Does your property type change the answer?
Large Item Pick Up is for eligible residential households. If your building uses a private waste system, use the property manager/hauler rather than assuming curbside eligibility.
Devon: four large items means four actual pieces
Choose the route before loading
Devon’s list is unusually clear: the event accepts many furniture and appliance items but rejects certain electronics, tires, propane containers, hazardous waste and heavy demolition material.
Keep mixed cleanouts separated
The annual event dates matter. Outside those windows, use the Recycle Depot or another approved route instead of leaving a bulky item beside the cart.
What the pickup does not collect
Electronics, tires, hazardous waste, propane tanks, demolition material, unidentified bags and items over six feet or weighing 200 lb or more are excluded from curbside large-item pickup. The event page gives separate depot routes; do not mix those materials into the curb pile.
