How to dispose of common items in Summerside
Mattress and box-spring disposal
Large furniture, mattresses and box springs are not regular curbside items under the current special-disposal guidance; they are accepted at Waste Watch drop-off centres under current rules.
Couches and large furniture
Summerside follows PEI’s Island Waste Management Corporation system. Use the current Waste Watch rules, cleanup periods and drop-off centres for oversized material.
Fridges, freezers and appliances
Large appliances and refrigerant equipment belong in the appropriate Waste Watch special-disposal stream, not ordinary cart garbage.
Drywall and renovation debris
Sort renovation debris and confirm the current IWMC facility/material route; do not mix hazardous or recyclable streams into general waste.

Before you pay for private junk removal
First check whether Summerside or its regional waste authority provides a no-charge or lower-cost municipal route for the exact item. Then compare the cost of self-haul, retailer take-back and private removal. Ask a private hauler where the material will be taken and whether disposal fees are included in the quoted price.
