How to dispose of common items in Peterborough
Fees, free streams and limits
- Local route: The City reports that its 2026 municipal large-item pickup season is CLOSED. The next monthly program is expected April–September 2027; booking is scheduled to open in March 2027.
Mattress and box-spring disposal
The City says large-item curbside pickup is closed for the remainder of 2026. Do not set out mattresses or furniture expecting collection this season; instead check the landfill or another authorized disposal route. Book the 2027 program when reservations reopen.
Appliances and special items
Appliances may be eligible, but refrigerant-containing units need special preparation. The landfill also accepts them under its current fee structure.
Drywall and renovation debris
Construction debris should go to the landfill or an appropriate private facility rather than the seasonal household large-item route.
Before you set out or haul a large item
In Peterborough, classify the item before choosing the disposal route. Furniture, mattresses, refrigerant appliances, electronics, household hazardous waste and construction debris can be governed by different collection or facility rules even when they come from the same home.
Use City of Peterborough — Large Item Pickup to re-check the current collection date or booking requirement, item dimensions or weight limits, facility hours, fees and preparation instructions. If the guide uses a regional authority, that is intentional: the regional waste operator may control disposal even when curbside service is associated with the municipality.
