North Huron junk disposal and bulky items

Where to take furniture, mattresses, appliances and household waste in North Huron — with local pickup and drop-off rules kept separate.

Index candidate: specific municipality/operator disposal route and selected fees source-checked; item restrictions still require checking before travel.

Quick answer for North Huron

North Huron landfill expressly prices mattresses, box springs and furniture at $31 per piece in the 2026 Fees and Charges By-law. Only waste originating from North Huron residents is eligible; bring proof of residency and pay at the landfill. Do not use ordinary curbside carts for loose bulky items.

1. What ordinary curbside collection covers

On July 21, 2026 North Huron transitioned from bag/tag pickup to carts. Garbage and recycling left outside the authorized carts are not automatically eligible for collection; consult the 2026–2027 route calendar. The fall yard-waste collections are NOT furniture pickup days.

2. Regional landfill or transfer-station route

The Township lists the landfill entrance at 86165 Currie Line, Wingham, Tuesday and Friday 9 a.m.–5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.–2 p.m. Proof of North Huron residency is required. The same municipal page also mentions a 39601 Reid Road location for yard-waste drop-off; confirm the correct gate with staff before driving.

3. Appliances, chemicals and special waste

Keep hazardous wastes, electronics, tires and yard waste apart from sofas or mattresses; seasonal yard-waste drop-off depots are not bulky-furniture receiving facilities. Verify appliance and refrigerant handling separately.

4. Charges, schedules and booking

North Huron 2026 Fees and Charges By-law No. 81-2025 Schedule E: bulk items ONLY mattresses, box springs and furniture $31 PER PIECE, excluding appliances. General sorted residential waste is $113.50/tonne, unsorted $226.50/tonne and minimum domestic load under 125 kg $15.50. Do not substitute the general minimum for the per-piece furniture price.

Important conditions and limits

Before loading, confirm that the landfill is accepting your exact furniture subtype and whether other mixed waste has separate charges. Curbside bag tags ended with the July 2026 cart transition.

Waste and recycling rules can vary by building type, address, operator and material. Large items should not be left at the curb unless your applicable collection program explicitly authorizes them. Facility acceptance is different from curbside acceptance.

Before you load a truck or place an item outside

  1. Check whether municipal or regional service applies to your property.
  2. Identify the item’s exact stream: mattress, furniture, major appliance, metal, hazardous waste, construction material or ordinary household refuse.
  3. Check the official fee, facility hours and any required booking or advance approval.
  4. Secure your load and follow facility instructions for separation or special handling.
