Goderich junk disposal and bulky items

Where to take furniture, mattresses, appliances and household waste in Goderich — with local pickup and drop-off rules kept separate.

Index candidate: specific municipality/operator disposal route and selected fees source-checked; item restrictions still require checking before travel.

Quick answer for Goderich

Do not leave old furniture beside Goderich’s garbage carts. Take eligible mattresses, box springs or sofas to the Mid-Huron Recycling Centre at 37506A Huron Road (Holmesville/Clinton area). Its published 2026 fee is $25 per bulk item. Confirm current operations before loading.

1. What ordinary curbside collection covers

Goderich currently collects ordinary household garbage in carts on a biweekly schedule. Items left beside full carts are not collected. The Town’s 2024 resident guide says its last municipal bulk-item pickup was June 3, 2024; no reinstated ongoing furniture curbside collection was verified.

2. Regional landfill or transfer-station route

Mid-Huron Recycling Centre, 37506A Huron Road, accepts bulk items including mattresses, box springs and sofas. Hours published by participating municipalities: Tuesday–Saturday 8 a.m.–1 p.m., with last loads accepted 30 minutes before closing. The Goderich yard-waste depot at 361 Cambridge Street is not a furniture drop-off.

3. Appliances, chemicals and special waste

Keep household chemicals and electronics separate; Huron County operates hazardous-waste services through Mid-Huron. The free Goderich yard-waste depot accepts plant material only, not sofas, appliances or household garbage.

4. Charges, schedules and booking

Mid-Huron tariff effective January 1, 2026: mattresses, box springs and sofas $25 EACH; ordinary waste $245 per metric tonne and a $20 minimum up to 100 kg. These are distinct categories: do not treat a $20 general minimum as the mattress charge. Confirm mixed loads, appliance handling and payment before visiting.

Important conditions and limits

Call the Mid-Huron operator (519-482-7668) if bringing an unusual upholstered item, mixed material or a large load; facility acceptance and posted fees can change.

Waste and recycling rules can vary by building type, address, operator and material. Large items should not be left at the curb unless your applicable collection program explicitly authorizes them. Facility acceptance is different from curbside acceptance.

Before you load a truck or place an item outside

  1. Check whether municipal or regional service applies to your property.
  2. Identify the item’s exact stream: mattress, furniture, major appliance, metal, hazardous waste, construction material or ordinary household refuse.
  3. Check the official fee, facility hours and any required booking or advance approval.
  4. Secure your load and follow facility instructions for separation or special handling.
