Quick answer for Cochrane
Cochrane’s official Fournier Landfill fee table expressly lists mattresses and box springs as a separate disposal item; bring them to the municipal landfill, not loose to ordinary curbside bins.
1. What ordinary curbside collection covers
The Town of Cochrane in Ontario collects household waste weekly, and the residential blue-box collection is managed by Circular Materials/GFL. Do not confuse this town with Cochrane, Alberta.
2. Regional landfill or transfer-station route
Fournier Landfill serves Cochrane and the listed neighbouring townships. Users must weigh in and follow staff instructions; loads need securing and applicable entrance charges.
3. Appliances, chemicals and special waste
The municipality separates recycling and approved brush/wood from general waste. Recyclables can be directed to appropriate receiving areas at the landfill.
4. Charges, schedules and booking
The 2026 landfill table lists mattresses and box springs at $15 per item for qualifying Cochrane residents, with other ordinary garbage charged by weight. Confirm resident qualifications and other applicable charges.
What still needs a last check
The source displays historic narrative alongside a 2026 fees bylaw; use the current 2026 fee section, and confirm any operator changes before delivery.
Waste and recycling rules can vary by building type, address, operator and material. Large items should not be left at the curb unless your applicable collection program explicitly authorizes them. Facility acceptance is different from curbside acceptance.
Before you load a truck or place an item outside
- Check whether municipal or regional service applies to your property.
- Identify the item’s exact stream: mattress, furniture, major appliance, metal, hazardous waste, construction material or ordinary household refuse.
- Check the official fee, facility hours and any required booking or advance approval.
- Secure your load and follow facility instructions for separation or special handling.
For national background, compare mattress disposal options, appliance disposal, and paid removal cost factors. The local sources below control the actual disposal rules.
