Oromocto junk disposal and bulky items
Where to take furniture, mattresses, appliances and household waste in Oromocto — with local pickup and drop-off rules kept separate.
Index candidate: local collection limits and a designated regional receiving operator are documented; mattress/sofa acceptance and actual cost require advance confirmation.
Quick answer for Oromocto
Oromocto collects only small eligible household furniture in ordinary garbage: each item must weigh less than 20 kg (44 lb) AND measure no more than 90 cm (36 in) in any dimension. Full sofas and most mattresses exceed those limits. The Town instructs homeowners to take other waste to Fredericton Region Solid Waste at 1775 Alison Boulevard, but residents should call 506-453-9938 to confirm mattress/sofa intake and final fees before travelling.
1. What ordinary curbside collection covers
The Town’s current garbage-collection schedule says domestic garbage is picked up weekly: Wednesday (Lincoln Ward 4), Thursday (civilian housing Wards 1 and 3), Friday (residential military housing Ward 2). Furniture/appliances under 20 kg and under 90 cm in ALL dimensions may qualify as domestic garbage; larger items are not picked up. The May/November seasonal leaf collection specifically excludes furniture and appliances.
2. Regional landfill or transfer-station route
The Town identifies Fredericton Region Solid Waste as the homeowner’s receiving route for waste that the weekly garbage collector does not accept. The CRSC landfill is at 1775 Alison Boulevard, Fredericton; hours are Monday–Friday 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., Saturday 7:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m., closed Sundays and holidays. The rates page does not expressly identify a separate mattress category, so ask the scalehouse about specific furniture first.
3. Appliances, chemicals and special waste
Do not put bulky furniture with Oromocto’s seasonal leaf collection: the Town excludes lumber, appliances, furniture and tires from that program. CRSC runs separately timed household hazardous-waste receiving on Wednesday and Saturday and lists specific refrigerant-appliance charges; route these items individually.
4. Charges, schedules and booking
CRSC currently publishes $109/tonne for regular garbage and $45/tonne for separated C&D, with debit, cash and Visa accepted. Fridges and freezers are $32 plus tax. No mattress-specific or sofa-specific charge, minimum load fee, or automatic item acceptance is published on the checked rates page, so call the scalehouse before loading.
What still needs a last check
This is a source-led INDEX CANDIDATE, not an unconditional guarantee that all mattresses and upholstered furniture will be accepted. Confirm the exact item, contamination/bedbug packaging, resident access, minimum charge, vehicle/load handling and hours with the CRSC operator at 506-453-9938. If the facility refuses your item, use an authorised specialist collection service.
Waste and recycling rules can vary by building type, address, operator and material. Large items should not be left at the curb unless your applicable collection program explicitly authorizes them. Facility acceptance is different from curbside acceptance.
Before you load a truck or place an item outside
- Check whether municipal or regional service applies to your property.
- Identify the item’s exact stream: mattress, furniture, major appliance, metal, hazardous waste, construction material or ordinary household refuse.
- Check the official fee, facility hours and any required booking or advance approval.
- Secure your load and follow facility instructions for separation or special handling.
For national background, compare mattress disposal options, appliance disposal, and paid removal cost factors. The local sources below control the actual disposal rules.
