Dalhousie junk disposal and bulky items
Official local guidance for furniture, mattresses, appliances and household waste in Dalhousie — with pickup and disposal rules separated.
Updated disposal decision: Dalhousie is served municipally as part of Heron Bay. Heron Bay’s official 2025 spring-cleanup sheet explicitly listed household furniture and mattresses and showed Dalhousie pickup May 20–23, 2025. That is useful evidence for the type of special collection, but those dates have expired and must not be treated as a standing service. For bulky mattresses or sofas, follow the material-specific steps below before choosing curbside pickup or self-haul.
Quick answer for Dalhousie
Dalhousie is within the Town of Heron Bay. The Town’s signed 2025 spring-cleanup sheet explicitly accepted household furniture and mattresses for its spring event, including Dalhousie dates May 20–23, 2025. Those dates are past and do not establish a 2026 pickup. For present disposal, the Restigouche transfer station serves regional solid waste generally but does not separately list mattress/sofa acceptance: call 506-789-2111 or Heron Bay at 506-684-7600 before set-out or self-haul.
Current disposal decision: mattress, box spring or sofa in Dalhousie
Choose the correct route: Dalhousie is served municipally as part of Heron Bay. Heron Bay’s official 2025 spring-cleanup sheet explicitly listed household furniture and mattresses and showed Dalhousie pickup May 20–23, 2025. That is useful evidence for the type of special collection, but those dates have expired and must not be treated as a standing service.
Bulky item decision: For a sofa or mattress today, check Heron Bay’s current cleanup announcements for a new Dalhousie pickup date before putting anything outside. If there is no active pickup, the nearby regional transfer station at 7 Centennial Drive in Campbellton handles general waste weekdays; it has not published a permanent mattress/sofa eligibility guarantee. Call ahead for acceptance, preparation and current charges rather than relying on the former spring event.
Other material streams: The 2025 event expressly excluded construction materials, paint, tires and ordinary household garbage; these restrictions cannot automatically be transferred to a later event without its own instructions.
Operator verification: 506-789-2111 — ask whether the exact item is currently accepted, and which fee applies.
1. What ordinary curbside collection covers
Dalhousie is part of the Town of Heron Bay, not the neighbouring Campbellton Regional Community; do not borrow Campbellton-sector curbside rules. Heron Bay’s 2024 annual report says it conducts a household-item spring cleanup once a year. Its published 2025 sheet named furniture and mattresses for the May 20–23, 2025 Dalhousie event, and excluded construction debris, paint, propane, vehicle parts, tires and ordinary garbage. These historical documents establish a past programme but do not establish a 2026 or year-round collection window.
2. Regional landfill or transfer-station route
The Restigouche Transfer Station at 7 Centennial Drive, Campbellton, operates Monday–Friday 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., phone 506-789-2111. The regional page states it provides solid-waste services to municipalities in the region. That is not equivalent to a published acceptance list for each bulky item.
3. Appliances, chemicals and special waste
White goods carry specific regional rates: $5 each for white goods and $40 with Freon. This does not apply to mattresses, and refrigeration or hazardous-material rules should not be inferred from the general solid-waste tariff.
4. Charges, schedules and booking
Restigouche’s published 2026 transfer-station tariff is $147 per tonne for general waste, with separate appliance charges and a seasonal clean-construction rate. The source does not list a guaranteed fee or explicit intake procedure for a Dalhousie household mattress or couch. The 2025 Heron Bay cleanup document was a collection notice, not a 2026 fee authorization. Confirm what will be accepted and the minimum payable amount with Heron Bay (506-684-7600) or the Restigouche operator (506-789-2111).
Selected official detail checked October 14, 2026: Heron Bay’s resident page lists its municipal office at 506-684-7600 and reception@heron-bay.ca. Ask for the current Dalhousie spring-cleanup schedule and the exact accepted-item list before setting out furniture or a mattress. The previously published May 2025 event document is historical, while Restigouche’s $147-per-tonne 2026 general tipping rate does NOT confirm sofa/mattress receipt.
Before you arrange a bulky-item load
HOLD: obtain Heron Bay’s 2026 or later spring-cleanup program terms for Dalhousie (or a live municipal notice), or the Restigouche operator’s current mattress and sofa acceptance/fee schedule. Until then, old 2025 item lists cannot support current curbside instructions.
Waste and recycling rules can vary by building type, address, operator and material. Large items should not be left at the curb unless your applicable collection program explicitly authorizes them. Facility acceptance is different from curbside acceptance.
Before you load a truck or place an item outside
- Check whether municipal or regional service applies to your property.
- Identify the item’s exact stream: mattress, furniture, major appliance, metal, hazardous waste, construction material or ordinary household refuse.
- Check the official fee, facility hours and any required booking or advance approval.
- Secure your load and follow facility instructions for separation or special handling.
For national background, compare mattress disposal options, appliance disposal, and paid removal cost factors. The local sources below control the actual disposal rules.
