Carman junk disposal and bulky items

Where to take furniture, mattresses, appliances and household waste in Carman — with local pickup and drop-off rules kept separate.

Core local routes verified against official municipal/regional sources. Check the live operator notice for your address, item and fee before set-out or travel.

Quick answer for Carman

For a sofa, armchair, mattress or box spring, the Town lists a specific DROP-OFF fee at Carman Transfer Station. Do not place large furniture beside normal bins and assume it is an eligible free municipal bulky pickup.

1. What ordinary curbside collection covers

Carman uses three automated household carts: a 240 L garbage cart and 360 L recycling and compost carts. MWM Environmental provides collection and address/zone calendars; residents in the RM of Dufferin require the correct service subscription and may use a different zone schedule.

2. Regional landfill or transfer-station route

Carman Transfer Station is at 24164 Road 33N. It is a TRANSFER STATION, not a landfill: materials are shipped to other facilities. The Town lists limited hours (Mon/Wed/Fri afternoons and Saturday), and all loads must be secured. Confirm current hours before departure.

3. Appliances, chemicals and special waste

Electronic waste (including TVs and computers) is listed as a separate no-charge drop-off stream at the Carman transfer station. Asbestos is not accepted. Compost follows a seasonal curbside program, not the furniture stream.

4. Charges, schedules and booking

The municipal transfer-station fee table (explicitly marked revised in 2019) lists resident prices of $25 per sofa/chair and $35 per mattress/box spring, with higher nonresident rates. Since this posted fee table is old, these figures are historical ONLY; obtain current prices from the Town before paying or travel.

What still needs a last check

The only item-specific online price schedule is labelled 2019, so 2026 fees are NOT verified. Confirm rates, address eligibility and acceptance by calling the Town at 204-745-2443.

Waste and recycling rules can vary by building type, address, operator and material. Large items should not be left at the curb unless your applicable collection program explicitly authorizes them. Facility acceptance is different from curbside acceptance.

Before you load a truck or place an item outside

  1. Check whether municipal or regional service applies to your property.
  2. Identify the item’s exact stream: mattress, furniture, major appliance, metal, hazardous waste, construction material or ordinary household refuse.
  3. Check the official fee, facility hours and any required booking or advance approval.
  4. Secure your load and follow facility instructions for separation or special handling.
