Princeton junk disposal and bulky items
Where to take furniture, mattresses, appliances and household waste in Princeton — with local pickup and drop-off rules kept separate.
Source-checked city guide: a documented route for common bulky items is identified. Confirm operator fees, item exceptions and eligibility before travelling.
Quick answer for Princeton
The Town of Princeton & District Landfill explicitly lists mattresses, box springs and couches as separately charged items in its official fee schedule. Take these items to 171 Princeton–Summerland Road, not regular two-bag curbside garbage. The Town’s linked online fee sheet still says 2025, so verify the effective October 2026 amounts before delivery.
1. What ordinary curbside collection covers
Town curbside service limits regular household garbage to two standard 90-litre bags/cans per week within town limits. This does not authorize curbside collection of loose mattresses, sofas, fridges or renovation debris.
2. Regional landfill or transfer-station route
The Town-operated Princeton & District Landfill is at 171 Princeton–Summerland Road, phone 250-295-0500. From April 1 to October 31 it opens Tuesday–Saturday, 8:00 a.m.–3:50 p.m.; from November 1 to March 31, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday at those hours. Closed statutory holidays. Area H tagged household-bag rules do not automatically waive furniture charges.
3. Appliances, chemicals and special waste
The Town’s official 2025 Schedule J clearly names mattress/box springs and couches as accepted fee categories. Appliances, renovation waste and hazardous goods use separate fee categories and rules; staff can reject unsecured or prohibited materials.
4. Charges, schedules and booking
The Town-linked 2025 Schedule J gives $10 for EACH mattress, box spring or couch, with a $10 general load minimum; the original multi-year Bylaw 1026 schedule projects $15 per mattress/couch and a $15 general minimum for September 2026 onward. Because the Town’s public page still links the 2025 one-page sheet and amendments may apply, $15 for October 2026 needs live municipal confirmation before quoting it as a firm current rate.
What still needs a last check
Before a 2026 visit, ask Princeton Landfill at 250-295-0500 to confirm current Schedule J, any later fee amendments, whether the minimum is additional to item charges, access conditions and special handling. Do not use the neighbouring RDOS-operated landfill fees as the Town of Princeton tariff.
Waste and recycling rules can vary by building type, address, operator and material. Large items should not be left at the curb unless your applicable collection program explicitly authorizes them. Facility acceptance is different from curbside acceptance.
Before you load a truck or place an item outside
- Check whether municipal or regional service applies to your property.
- Identify the item’s exact stream: mattress, furniture, major appliance, metal, hazardous waste, construction material or ordinary household refuse.
- Check the official fee, facility hours and any required booking or advance approval.
- Secure your load and follow facility instructions for separation or special handling.
