Quick answer for Kaslo
The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) runs the Kaslo Transfer Station, which provides drop-off for permitted municipal refuse. Mattress and box-spring material now has a separate regional charge rather than being priced only as mixed garbage.
1. What ordinary curbside collection covers
Kaslo municipal garbage is collected on Tuesdays. Every garbage bag must carry the Village’s orange tag purchased through approved local sellers, with material set out between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. Regular curbside collection is not a bulky furniture service.
2. Regional landfill or transfer-station route
The RDCK site directory lists the Kaslo Transfer Station at 1302 Kaslo West Road with seasonally changing hours. Check the facility materials list for whether a particular furniture item or major appliance is accepted; some locations have category restrictions.
3. Appliances, chemicals and special waste
Kaslo’s municipal recycling is a separate Recycle BC curbside service. The RDCK network treats batteries, appliances, mixed waste, green waste and hazardous goods as separate categories.
4. Charges, schedules and booking
Effective January 1, 2026, RDCK’s regional schedule lists mattresses/box springs at $17.50 per unit and includes updated 2026 mixed-waste fees. The Village orange-tag price is linked to its ordinary per-bag tipping category.
What still needs a last check
The RDCK has multiple subregional fee schedules, and individual smaller transfer stations may limit categories. Verify the particular item at Kaslo before travel.
Waste and recycling rules can vary by building type, address, operator and material. Large items should not be left at the curb unless your applicable collection program explicitly authorizes them. Facility acceptance is different from curbside acceptance.
Before you load a truck or place an item outside

- Identify the item’s exact stream: mattress, furniture, major appliance, metal, hazardous waste, construction material or ordinary household refuse.
- Check the official fee, facility hours and any required booking or advance approval.
- Secure your load and follow facility instructions for separation or special handling.
