Armstrong junk disposal and bulky items

Where to take furniture, mattresses, appliances and household waste in Armstrong — with local pickup and drop-off rules kept separate.

Core local routes verified against official municipal/regional sources. Check the live operator notice for your address, item and fee before set-out or travel.

Quick answer for Armstrong

For oversized furniture or a replacement appliance, ordinary cart rules do not establish curbside acceptance. Check the regional disposal stream before moving the item.

1. What ordinary curbside collection covers

Armstrong contracts municipal collection to SCV Waste Solutions (250-540-9300). The City lists a 240 L garbage cart emptied every two weeks, weekly food-waste collection and a separate green-waste stream; do not mix these programs with a loose bulky-item pickup.

2. Regional landfill or transfer-station route

RDNO runs the Armstrong/Spallumcheen Transfer Station at 3367 Powerhouse Road, near Armstrong. Residential garbage is accepted at the site, with divertible loads separated for lower costs.

3. Appliances, chemicals and special waste

Electronics and hazardous waste are not accepted at this transfer station; use the RDNO material lookup for another depot. Yard waste is limited to approximately a pickup-bed volume per day at the site.

4. Charges, schedules and booking

The City may offer an additional paid collection cart for excess regular garbage. It is not a substitute for arranging approved large-item disposal. Transfer station charges are material-dependent.

What still needs a last check

Confirm exact bulky furniture, mattress and refrigerant-appliance routes on the current RDNO acceptance list.

Waste and recycling rules can vary by building type, address, operator and material. Large items should not be left at the curb unless your applicable collection program explicitly authorizes them. Facility acceptance is different from curbside acceptance.

Before you load a truck or place an item outside

  1. Check whether municipal or regional service applies to your property.
  2. Identify the item’s exact stream: mattress, furniture, major appliance, metal, hazardous waste, construction material or ordinary household refuse.
  3. Check the official fee, facility hours and any required booking or advance approval.
  4. Secure your load and follow facility instructions for separation or special handling.
