How to dispose of common items in Wood Buffalo
Mattress and box-spring disposal
Mattresses and large furniture can be eligible heavy items when registered during the program window.
Appliances and special items
Appliances and regulated products can have separate drop-off requirements; confirm the current accepted-item list before booking or hauling.
Drywall and renovation debris
Construction debris should use the regional landfill/private C&D route, not the household four-item allowance.
Before you set out or haul a large item
In Wood Buffalo, classify the item before choosing the disposal route. Furniture, mattresses, refrigerant appliances, electronics, household hazardous waste and construction debris can be governed by different collection or facility rules even when they come from the same home.
Use RMWB — Collection Events to re-check the current collection date or booking requirement, item dimensions or weight limits, facility hours, fees and preparation instructions. If the guide uses a regional authority, that is intentional: the regional waste operator may control disposal even when curbside service is associated with the municipality.
Current material charges and sorting
The landfill lists mattresses or box springs at $35 each and CFC appliances at $50.60 each. Household hazardous material goes to the Public Drop-off area, not into the general landfill stream; ask PULSE about uncertain materials.
Recycling service changed October 5
Residential recycling moved to Circular Materials on October 5, 2026. Use its Fort McMurray address calendar for recycling; RMWB continues to provide municipal garbage and landfill information.
