Ponoka junk disposal and bulky items

Quick answer for Ponoka

The Town’s Waste Transfer Station explicitly accepts mattresses and box springs, furniture, toilets, drywall, appliances and other specified streams. All items transferred to the regional landfill must be less than eight feet long.

1. What ordinary curbside collection covers

Ponoka operates a curbside waste collection program with an address/route calendar. Its Town information tells residents to put carts and recycling out by 6 a.m. on their collection day.

2. Regional landfill or transfer-station route

The Waste Transfer Station is northeast of town on Township Road 431A (rural blue sign 252028 TWP RD 431A). Town hours are Monday–Saturday 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m. in summer, Tuesday–Saturday 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m. in winter; statutory holidays closed.

3. Appliances, chemicals and special waste

Furniture and household garbage use the refuse stream; metal and white goods are separately weighed. Asbestos insulation, demolition debris, fire extinguishers, industrial waste and oversized loads above the eight-foot rule are explicitly excluded.

4. Charges, schedules and booking

The Town lists mattresses at $10 each plus an $8 charge and any applicable weight-based components. Ordinary garbage loads have an $8 minimum up to 100 kg. Confirm the final amount and sorting at the scale, especially if dropping several materials.

What still needs a last check

The Town’s accepted-item list is for the transfer station, NOT proof of unlimited curbside collection or free town large-item pickup.

Waste and recycling rules can vary by building type, address, operator and material. Large items should not be left at the curb unless your applicable collection program explicitly authorizes them. Facility acceptance is different from curbside acceptance.

Before you load a truck or place an item outside

  1. Check whether municipal or regional service applies to your property.
  2. Identify the item’s exact stream: mattress, furniture, major appliance, metal, hazardous waste, construction material or ordinary household refuse.
  3. Check the official fee, facility hours and any required booking or advance approval.
  4. Secure your load and follow facility instructions for separation or special handling.
