Olds junk disposal and bulky items
Where to take furniture, mattresses, appliances and household waste in Olds — with local pickup and drop-off rules kept separate.
Core local routes verified against official municipal/regional sources. Check the live operator notice for your address, item and fee before set-out or travel.
Quick answer for Olds
Large household waste is not a reason to place furniture or mattresses outside the Town cart. The Town directs users to the Didsbury Transfer Station for additional waste; Mountain View Regional Waste describes mattresses/box springs, couches and upholstered chairs as separately chargeable categories.
1. What ordinary curbside collection covers
Olds contracts residential cart collection to Empringham Disposal, with a published 2026 zone schedule for garbage, compost and recycling. It says carts need adequate clearance and missed eligible pickups can be reported to the contractor.
2. Regional landfill or transfer-station route
The Didsbury transfer facility operated by Mountain View Regional Waste Management Commission is listed by the Town as the nearest regional waste site. The Town notes Monday–Saturday 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. operation; confirm with the operator before travel.
3. Appliances, chemicals and special waste
Batteries should never go in regular garbage/recycling bins. Separate waste oil and tires under Mountain View’s dedicated transfer-station programs; do not mix paints or hazardous material with construction debris.
4. Charges, schedules and booking
The commission’s published transfer brochure lists $10 per mattress/box spring and $5 per upholstered couch/chair, but the brochure is not a verified 2026 fee amendment. Use these as published reference rates, NOT a guaranteed current quote; ask the operator for today’s charge.
What still needs a last check
Olds does not operate the Didsbury transfer site, and transfer-station charges may change. A regional depot acceptance rule is not free doorstep pickup.
Waste and recycling rules can vary by building type, address, operator and material. Large items should not be left at the curb unless your applicable collection program explicitly authorizes them. Facility acceptance is different from curbside acceptance.
Before you load a truck or place an item outside
- Check whether municipal or regional service applies to your property.
- Identify the item’s exact stream: mattress, furniture, major appliance, metal, hazardous waste, construction material or ordinary household refuse.
- Check the official fee, facility hours and any required booking or advance approval.
- Secure your load and follow facility instructions for separation or special handling.
For national background, compare mattress disposal options, appliance disposal, and paid removal cost factors. The local sources below control the actual disposal rules.
