Fort Macleod junk disposal and bulky items

Where to take furniture, mattresses, appliances and household waste in Fort Macleod — with local pickup and drop-off rules kept separate.

Core local routes verified against official municipal/regional sources. Check the live operator notice for your address, item and fee before set-out or travel.

Quick answer for Fort Macleod

For discarded couches, mattresses or major appliances outside a Town clean-up event, use the Willow Creek Regional Landfill, not the regular cart program. The landfill’s official fee sheet explicitly lists mattresses/box springs, couches/loveseats and appliances as accepted waste with separate handling charges.

1. What ordinary curbside collection covers

The Town of Fort Macleod states that ordinary residential household waste is collected weekly, with alternating-zone pickups (north Thursdays, south Fridays) and recycling every two weeks. Carts should be out by 7 a.m. in their designated location.

2. Regional landfill or transfer-station route

The Willow Creek Regional Landfill is at 113053 Range Road 263. The 2026 autumn Town clean-up event and its free vouchers applied only September 24–October 1; do not represent those as current or year-round. Verify landfill opening hours with its office.

3. Appliances, chemicals and special waste

Electronics, batteries and paint can have separate recycling routes at the regional landfill. Refrigerator/freezer and other refrigerant appliances incur a distinct surcharge; check preparation requirements before transporting them.

4. Charges, schedules and booking

The regional landfill published a rate sheet effective November 1, 2025: $10 per mattress/box spring, $10 per couch/loveseat and $5 per washer/dryer/dishwasher/water heater in listed special-item categories; the schedule also describes possible weight-based charges and furniture/appliance surcharges, so do not promise these as all-in totals. Call 403-687-2603 for the applicable final charge.

What still needs a last check

The Town source contains stale or internally inconsistent clean-up time text; do not use that event to promise free bulky pickup after October 1. Landfill charges are subject to updates and mixed-load conditions.

Waste and recycling rules can vary by building type, address, operator and material. Large items should not be left at the curb unless your applicable collection program explicitly authorizes them. Facility acceptance is different from curbside acceptance.

Before you load a truck or place an item outside

  1. Check whether municipal or regional service applies to your property.
  2. Identify the item’s exact stream: mattress, furniture, major appliance, metal, hazardous waste, construction material or ordinary household refuse.
  3. Check the official fee, facility hours and any required booking or advance approval.
  4. Secure your load and follow facility instructions for separation or special handling.
