LOCAL DISPOSAL OPTIONS

How to dispose of common items in Metro Vancouver — regional disposal

Mattresses, couches and household furniture

Furniture and mattresses should be checked against the chosen transfer station or recycling facility’s current accepted-material and fee list.

Appliances, electronics, paint, propane and other special items

Appliances, electronics and hazardous products may be diverted to separate programs rather than mixed with garbage.

Renovation, construction and yard debris

Construction and demolition material can use specialized recycling or transfer routes; check the exact material and facility before hauling.

Before you set out or haul a large item

In Metro Vancouver — regional disposal, classify the item before choosing the disposal route. Furniture, mattresses, refrigerant appliances, electronics, household hazardous waste and construction debris can be governed by different collection or facility rules even when they come from the same home.

Use Metro Vancouver — official waste/disposal information to re-check the current collection date or booking requirement, item dimensions or weight limits, facility hours, fees and preparation instructions. If the guide uses a regional authority, that is intentional: the regional waste operator may control disposal even when curbside service is associated with the municipality.
