How to dispose of common items in Sorel-Tracy
Mattresses, couches and household furniture
Bulky household items that are not appropriate for regular collection can be routed through the regional ecocentre system. Sort furniture from recyclable and special material so staff can direct the load efficiently.
For usable household items, the city also points residents toward the Recyclo-Centre at 165 avenue de l’Hôtel-Dieu instead of sending reusable material directly to disposal. Bulky collection and the ecocentre are different routes, so check the collection calendar before leaving an item at the curb.
The city’s 2026 collection calendar also allows curbside bulky collection for furniture, mattresses, water heaters and non-halocarbon appliances. Construction materials, tires and electronics are excluded from that bulky route; reusable items are directed to the Recyclo-Centre instead.
Appliances, electronics, paint, propane and other special items
Electronics, household hazardous products and other regulated streams should be kept separate and checked against the regional ecocentre list before the trip.
The ecocentre accepts household hazardous waste, metals, electronics, non-working household appliances and tires. Refrigerating appliances that contain halocarbons use a separate recovery route through the Recyclo-Centre rather than ordinary bulky collection.
Renovation, construction and yard debris
For renovation debris, use the ecocentre rules rather than assuming it can be left with household bulky waste. Material type and quantity can affect where the load belongs.
Accepted renovation streams include concrete, cement, wood, asphalt shingles, gypsum and insulation. Materials must be sorted. Household garbage, soil and peat are not accepted at the ecocentre.
